Whispers of Her

Today I'm sharing you guys a poem that I wrote for the Barnes hall magazine Elysian. It is named ", Whispers of Her".

As I sat down to pen these lines, a whirlwind of emotions engulfed me. The words flow from within, each syllable a reflection of my innermost thoughts and desires. This poem, "Whispers of Her," is not just a composition of verses; it is a journey through the depths of my soul, a testament to the struggles and aspirations of countless women.

The speaker of this poem is a unborn girl in her mother's womb, who is scared of facing the world. She put forwards her thoughts to her sister. As a woman destined to be born into a world that often dictates our fate before we even draw our first breath, she grapple with the weight of uncertainty. Will she be relegated to the sidelines, confined to the roles predetermined by others, or will she carve her own path, fueled by courage and resilience?

With each stanza, she confront the dichotomy of possibilities that lay before her. The juxtaposition of valour and disgrace speaks to the precarious balance between empowerment and subjugation. Will she be empowered to pursue her dreams, or will she be forced to endure the indignity of oppression? These questions linger in the recesses of her mind, echoing the sentiments of countless women who dare to dream in a world that often seeks to silence their voices.

At the last two stanzas, the child is coaxed by the words of her sister in which she explains how the 21st century is.

This is about recognizing the inherent worth and potential of every girl, even before she enters the world. It emphasizes the importance of nurturing and supporting girls from the moment of conception, ensuring they have the opportunity to grow, thrive, and make their mark on the world. It's a call to society to create an environment where every girl is cherished, empowered, and encouraged to reach for the stars.
